Served in the field and prepared by Chef Cathal Amstrong of Restaurant Eve in Alexandria, VA, with Rappahannock County wines selected by sommelier-mixologist Todd Thrasher for the Rappahannock Summer Solstice Farm Dinner. I can’t take credit for it, but as one of the organizers of the event, I am feeling entitled to sending it to One Local Summer 2009 organized by Farm to Philly, showing menus made using local ingredients (with a few exceptions like spices, oil, salt).
…and as I am still recouping from this event which really turned extraordinarily well and seem to have transported our 150 guests to a magical place, I will keep the post short. Pictures to follow in a few days (the one here was taken by photographer Ray Boc, of Sperryville VA, from the dinner site the week before as the sun was setting behind the Blue Ridge Mountains)
Nite nite!
Update: Here are other blog entries on this event (obviously some people are better at this than I. Actually, I did not have the chance to take any pictures – what with the welcoming of guests, continued coordination, talking with guests, cleaning up etc – so I am waiting for pictures from some of the photographers who were there). Meanwhile take a look at the pictures of Allison Morgan:
– Allison Morgan – a professional photographer – attended the dinner and posted her take on it as well as some awesome photos that really capture the magic of the dinner. Take a look here – gorgeous, gorgeous photos. I did not know who Allison was, but thanks to a Google watch on the Summer Solstice Dinner, I was alerted to her post.
– John Hagarti on Wine (John represented Rappahannock Cellars): find his post here.
– and see Summer Solstice on Turkey Mountain – The Pictures from additional photographs

Fabulous menu, Sylvie. Meanwhile, I was dining on a roast duck Caesar salad at The Reef for Father’s Day.
I love roast duck, Ed. I can’t imagine your dinner was too bad either… I did not get to eat much that evening, though…
The view is breathtaking and the menu is mouthwatering…No doubt that everybody had some good time there !
Thanks for the other links too
Lovely. While I most definitely enjoyed our dinner in Loudoun Co., I am just a little envious that you had Todd Thrasher at yours… of course, we’re fortunate to be able to enjoy his libations right here in town. I’m sorry you didn’t get to fully enjoy the food, but it sounds like everything went very well thanks to your hard work!
So beautiful! What an absolutely stunning place you live in!!
Great write-up. Thanks for the extra links and the mention – the big shot at the top caught my eye. I’m just sad I missed that menu!
